🇬🇧 Voïvod is one of the most innovative metal bands ever to emerge from Canada. Formed in Jonquière, Québec, in 1982, they fused thrash, punk, progressive rock and science fiction into a unique universe. Unlike other thrash bands, Voïvod built an entire mythology around dystopian futures, cyber-mutants, and radioactive wastelands — a vision born from the imagination of drummer-artist **Michel “Away” Langevin**, whose artwork shaped the band’s identity.
Their influence extends across generations: Metallica, Dave Grohl, and Mastodon have all praised Voïvod as a groundbreaking force.

## ⚡ ALBUM HISTORY / HISTORIQUE DE L’ALBUM
🇬🇧 Released in 1984, **“War and Pain”** is Voïvod’s explosive debut — raw, chaotic, radioactive thrash forged during freezing Québec winters. The band rehearsed in unheated rooms using salvaged gear, which contributed to the abrasive sound.
Anecdote: When Metal Blade received the demo, they were shocked by the mix — but also impressed by the originality. The album became an underground classic almost instantly.

🇫🇷 Sorti en 1984, **“War and Pain”** est un premier album explosif — un thrash brut, chaotique et radioactif, façonné dans les hivers glacials du Québec. Le groupe répétait dans des locaux non chauffés avec du matériel récupéré, ce qui a influencé leur son abrasif.
Anecdote : Metal Blade a d’abord été surpris par la violence et la “saleté” du mix… avant d’être conquis par la créativité hors norme du groupe. L’album est devenu culte dans l’underground.
