Released in 1990, Heritage marked Earth, Wind & Fire’s attempt to modernize their sound with late-80s R&B and new jack swing influences. While retaining their signature horns and harmonies, tracks like "Good Time" and "Gotta Get You into My Life" (a Beatles cover) lean into synth-heavy production and electronic drums. The album’s lead single, "Sunday Morning," blends their classic warmth with contemporary grooves, though some fans missed the organic instrumentation of their 70s heyday. Despite Maurice White’s absence from most recordings, Philip Bailey’s falsetto and Verdine White’s bass keep the spirit alive.
