The album that launched a thousand hairspray cans, Slide It In marks the moment David Coverdale traded bluesy grit for glossy, MTV-ready swagger. Recorded in two versions (UK raw, US polished), it’s a bridge between Whitesnake’s pub-rock past ("Love Ain't No Stranger") and the stadium-slaying future ("Slow an’ Easy"’s riff became a template for *1987*). New guitarist John Sykes injected metallic sheen, while the title track’s not-so-subtle innuendo set the tone for hair metal’s coming excess. Critics sneered at the mix’s slickness, but fans sent it platinum—proof that sometimes, sliding it in just right is all it takes.
